Contains Hightower's writings, including novels, essays, and poetry. Drafts include copies of a manuscript in which Hightower discusses his conviction and declares his innocence; political essays discussing many of the current events during his prison term, such as the Great Depression, World War II and the atomic bomb, and Communism; and various novels, many with Western American themes. Also includes correspondence between Hightower, prison personnel, and Genelle Pugmire, and the typewriter Hightower used when composing in prison.
